The Provost's Graduate Interdisciplinary Program (GIDP) Finishing Fellowship was established to advance the university’s strategic imperatives and demonstrate Provost Prelock’s commitment to supporting graduate student success and timely program completion. The fellowship provides financial and academic support to help recipients complete their GIDP master’s or doctoral degree during the award period.
About the Award
The Provost's GIDP Finishing Fellowship will be awarded on an annual basis in the amount of $25,000 to one graduate GIDP student in the last semester of their master’s or doctoral program. GIDP Advisory Council (GIDPAC) will review the nomination packets submitted by Chairs of eligible GIDPs on behalf of one eligible student enrolled in their GIDP/track. Students must be nominated and may not apply directly. The first recipient will be awarded in Spring 2026.
Eligibility Conditions - Nominees must:
- Be enrolled in a GIDP master's or doctoral track major
- Hold a 3.5 minimum GPA
- Must have an estimated graduation term of Spring or Summer of the award year

Only GIDP Chairs may nominate candidates. Students may not self-nominate.
The online application will prompt you to upload the following documents (pdf format):
Letter of Nomination from the GIDP Chair that explains the reason to prioritize this student for the award, and the student's determination and dedication throughout their program of study
Letter of Support from the Advisor, who can explain the student's progress with a thesis or dissertation, and who can say whether the student's Final Defense has been approved or will be approved to be scheduled in the award semester
A personal and professional statement by the student that includes any concrete post-graduation offers (post-doc, employment, other professional opportunities), that would take effect soon after program completion
To complete the nomination form, you will also need to provide the full name of the student, student ID#, and expected graduation term.
The nomination session will open September 1, 2025
Deadline to submit the maximum nominations per eligible GIDP is October 20, 2025
Award Conditions
- Awardee must be willing to devote full-time effort toward thesis or dissertation completion for the duration of the award and will be required to work with the Graduate Writing Lab through the Graduate Center during the award tenure.
- Awardees may not hold a GA appointment or other university funding for the duration of the award.
NOTE: If your nominee is selected for the award, all documents must be on file to constitute a complete application packet, which is required in order for the award to be made.
