Conference Summary

San Francisco, CA
February 13-18, 2016

I had the pleasure of attending Photonics West in San Francisco this semester where I had the chance to learn from talks, connect with other attendees, and share my research with the community.

Photonics West is an annual conference that brings around twenty thousand attendees from industry and academia together to share state-of-the-art technology and research interests. For a week there are talks, poster sessions, dinners and other events that encourage everyone to network.

After giving my talk on Tuesday morning I got into fruitful discussions with attendees such as; Robin Head from University of Southampton, that will result in some collaborative work after the conference; and Arash Rahimi-Iman from Philipps-Universität, on his work with Self Mode-Locking that he presented the previous day. The poster sessions in the evening contributed to educational discussions with experts presenting their current results.

It was inspirational to attend talks from both prominent researchers and students on new results and methods that I hope to be able to incorporate into my studies. I am very grateful for the support of the Herbert E. Carter Travel Award that let me attend this conference that has given me a lot of motivation for my future work and the opportunity network in my field.
