Conference Summary
American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting
San Francisco, California
December 14-18, 2015

Attending the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting was an excellent learning and networking experience. As always, I returned to the University of Arizona inspired and energized.

One of the highlights of my experience was presenting my own research; because I was presenting a poster, I had the chance to speak personally with many more people than I would have had I been giving a talk. I was fortunate to meet many key figures in my field, all of whom offered insightful comments and encouragement. It is likely that some of the same people will be reviewing my manuscript when I submit it for publication in the near future, so it was very helpful to get their initial reactions.

I also attended several sessions that showcased new work that will inform my future research. As just one example, I learned about a new coral paleoclimate record from a site near my own, which could offer opportunities to collaborate as well as insights into my study area.

Finally, the conference was an invaluable networking opportunity. In addition to meeting established scientists in my field, I reconnected with friends and mentors from previous projects and graduate study. In summary, the conference helped me establish myself within my field, maintain and form professional connections, and learn about new research. I am very grateful to the Herbert E. Carter Award for helping me attend!
