Conference Summary
American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting
San Francisco, California
December 14-18, 2015

Thank you for the funding support of my travel to the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting. Last week in San Francisco, I spent five days viewing professional talks, poster presentations, and luncheon and dinner events. I met and reconnected with numerous oceanographic and cyrospheric scientists. The most valuable experience was presenting my poster on ocean-ice shelf interactions around Antarctica. For over four hours, I continually discussed the research with professors and grad students. The feedback on my present work is invaluable and the prospect of collaborating in future is promising.

Most of the week is spent listening to short (10-15 minute) talks from experts in their respective fields. During the morning of the first day, about 20 talks were given on new observations and modeling results pertaining to ocean heat transport toward Antarctic’s ice shelves. In addition to the content, I gathered ideas to improve my oral presentations as well as methods to create informative and attractive figures. Furthermore, I attended oral sessions discussing sea level rise from satellite-based observations, the global warming hiatus, extreme weather trends, developments in Southern Ocean observations, North Atlantic ecology, among several others. The week was informative and provided many interactions that built relationships for future work and collaboration.

I sincerely appreciate the financial assistance,

Paul Goddard
